I WAS shocked when I read how shoppers are being fooled into thinking that eggs in their basket are from happily reared "free range" chickens - when the poor birds are actually reared in horrific, overcrowded conditions.

Even more sickening is the "debeaking" of such birds so their eggs can be called "organic".

We're just being lied to. What trust can consumers have in producers when money is all that seems to matter to them?
