K.D. Lang - Brief Article
Daniel VaillancourtOur Miss Chatelaine practically invented lesbian chic when she came out in 1992. Since then she has been a staunch and outspoken activist on behalf of gay causes, supporting such charities as AmFAR and receiving awards including GLAAD's 1998 Vito Russo Entertainer Award and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center's Women's Night Creative Integrity Award in 1997. Despite the pressures of being our first out lesbian sex symbol, the Canadian-born chanteuse has insisted on following her own individual path, whether it's speaking up for animal rights, helping to produce the latest CD by the Murmurs--the up-and-coming punk duo starring lang's partner, Leisha Hailey--or recording her own new CD, Invincible Summer, due out in June.
