Manhandled - reader forum
Chris L. ChristensenIn reading Christopher Rice's "I Hate Boys" [Last Word, June 10], I am at a loss as to what his motives were. His piece contains damaging stereotypes and statements that could easily be interpreted as feminist antimale propaganda. Rice calls sloppiness ("dirty laundry piled on the floor") and an inability to accept his own limits ("ask for directions") "numskull male behaviors." I know plenty of men, gay and straight, who are neat as pins and plenty of women who are slobs. One wonders if the motivation behind Rice's column is a desire to placate The Advocate's female readers, a misplaced attempt to right so-called wrongs of the past. Perhaps Rice's biggest problem is that he simply doesn't like being a man and feels a need to slam the entire gender in an attempt to ease his own identity questions.
