Hot beeps Persona

Graphic lyrics will keep it out of Wal-Mart, but greatFox's Persona is a happy surprise--computer-generated music that manages to be sexy, engaging, and soulful. The nine tracks offer fine studio-quality production and lyrics that beg for repeated listenings, whether it's to catch the humor ("Flirt," "Boys"), to find a deeper meaning ("If You Only"), or to follow the odd story of a queer sci-fi interspecies hookup ("Neon Blue," one of the weaker tracks).
Todd Guilmette, the mastermind behind the Gorillaz-like greatFox project, adds his singsong vocals to most tracks--more melodic than rap, but not quite singing--evoking the deep-throated Euro-pop of Human League, Heaven 17, and sometimes Front 242. It's all available for free download at www.greatfoxmusic.com.
