Alert for car used by killers
CHRIS GREENWOODDETECTIVES yesterday released details of the getaway car used by robbers who murdered a father-of-two.
They said an old-style green Ford Mondeo with a driver and passenger was seen racing away from the scene.
Det Chief Insp John MacDonald, leading the murder inquiry, has appealed for witnesses.
Balbir Matharu, 54, of Forest Gate, was found lying in the road by his wife and daughter in Stratford, East London, after trying to stop the robbers breaking into his white Mercedes van.
Witnesses watched in horror as he was run over and dragged for 40 yards by the robbers' car.
Mr Matharu was rushed to Newham General Hospital after the incident at midday on Thursday, but died at about 4.45pm after suffering "multiple blunt trauma".
Det Chief Insp Macdonald said: "We would appeal for anyone who was in the area near Maryland rail station to speak to us."
