'The Beeb is still hideously white' -Dyke
PAUL HUNTERTHE BBC is "hideously white" according to Greg Dyke, the corporation's director-general.
He said more than 98 per cent of its staff were white, and admitted that a lot of people from ethnic backgrounds had joined and left. He speculated that some might not feel welcome.
Mr Dyke said he realised there was a problem during a management Christmas lunch where only one of the 80 guests was non-white.
His comments came in a radio interview to be broadcast today.
He said: "You can have all the equal opportunities policies you like, but if the gateman doesn't let blacks through the gates, you've got a problem. I don't believe the BBC is like that, but we are not saying 'what are we going to do about this'."
