TEEN MUMS'pounds 8m
TOM KELLYTEENAGE mothers are being encouraged into education and jobs with an pounds 8 million package aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty.
Sure Start Plus, launched yesterday, also targets teenage fathers to help them play a full role in their children's upbringing.
The scheme is being piloted in 15 areas and advisers will tailor each support package to the young mother's situation.
"Nine out of 10 teenage parents live on income support," said Health Minister Yvette Cooper.
"They often have no qualifications, suffer more from post-natal depression and are more likely to be stuck in poverty in later life."
