Editor's comment

Cullimore, Duncan

Welcome to the Summer edition of Teaching Business and Economics. This edition features three conference 'specials' and some quite lengthy but very interesting pieces from some of the 'regulars'. I would like to thank all contributors for the time they put in and the high quality of work produced.

I am sure that many of those who attended the conference will have shared my pleasure at (a) seeing so many friends and (b) seeing such interesting presentations. It was a really good event and three of the presentations/workshops are written up as articles in this edition. We have the Evan Davis keynote on the world economy in which he gave his view on the big picture and what might happen over the next few years. We also have Ian Marcousé's presentation focusing on the need to produce students who can think, reflect and articulate as well as regurgitate. Ian considers the reality of much student learning in Business Studies and how it can be enhanced. Finally, Robert Wilson reports on a conference session in which Daniel Steenstra and others introduced a new Business Studies teaching resource.

We also have the regular sections including the resource reviews and the ICT on-line articles. Although we plan to continue the Journal in its current format we want to increase our on-line resource through the EBEA web site and this will be promoted in the Journal in future editions; hence the front cover and the article by Andy Beharrell.

Peter Davies leads on the first of three articles on Citizenship and the Economics Update focuses on British defence spending, which is a topical issue and one that has not been addressed in recent editions. There was insufficient space in this edition to include the final articles by Martin Jephcote and by Andrew Corish but these two will both appear in the Autumn edition.

The edition starts with a tribute to Cedric Sandford who died recently. Cedric made a major contribution to Economics and he will be missed by many members.
