I believe the definition of diversity education should be expanded to include acceptance or celebration of alternative ideals and values, not just ethnic/cultural but also city vs. country in the United States, etc.

The arts in particular seem to get little respect in school curricula. That is not only a way to learn to appreciate diversity of cultures but also an area that should be addressed in boosting mutual understanding and respect.

Teachers do need training and better education in this regard. Diversity is best taught through modeling and example. In addition, diversity should be sought for staffing of all schools.

"Diversity education" was non-existent when I was in school!
