Football: Last-gasp Lee
GRAHAM SMITHGRAEME LEE struck deep into stoppage time to give Sheffield Wednesday victory over Bristol City.
Lee headed home Leigh Bromby's cross to give the Owls three points from a match that City controlled for long periods.
Christian Roberts should have put City ahead seven minutes from time, but his wastefulness was punished by Lee.
Defeat cost City their place at the top of the Second Division table as they were leapfrogged by Plymouth, and it brought their 11- match winning run to an end.
Lee tested Steve Phillips early on with a 35-yard free-kick, but the Robins goalkeeper made a comfortable save.
City gradually settled into their stride and Aaron Brown had their first real opportunity after 15 minutes, but he fired over the bar.
There was very little goalmouth action as the game was battled out largely in midfield with neither side giving an inch.
Wednesday's backline had to be alert as a series of dangerous crosses from Louis Carey and Luke Wilkshire were cut out.
Lee Miller then tried his luck from distance as City began to enjoy more of the ball, but he dragged his effort wide of Kevin Pressman's goal.
Brown had the best chance of the first half two minutes into stoppage time, but Lee blocked his goalbound effort to keep the game scoreless going into the break.
City boss Danny Wilson had to make a change early in the second half when Matt Hill was forced off with an injury to be replaced by Craig Woodman.
The second period followed the pattern of the opening half with few clear-cut opportunities.
Pressman made his first real save of the game in the 61st minute, when he blocked Danny Coles' effort after Brown's corner had caused havoc in the Owls' box. Miller thought he had given City the lead in the 67th minute when he headed home a deep cross, but referee Mark Cowburn disallowed the goal for a foul by the former Falkirk striker on Brian Barry-Murphy.
Wilson went all out for victory by throwing on striker Christian Roberts for Wilkshire 20 minutes from time.
And Roberts was quickly into the action, forcing a save from Pressman with a right-footed effort. City were controlling the game now, but still struggled to open up Wednesday - although Lee Peacock was forced to shoot from distance but dragged the effort wide.
At the other end, Steve Haslam saw his cross-cum-shot blocked by Brown on an all-too-rare sortie into the Robins half.
But back came City, and Roberts had the chance to open the scoring for the Robins as he got on the end of Brown's corner but he drilled his shot wide of the post.
City were throwing everything forward in an attempt to get the vital winner, but Wednesday kept their discipline before hitting City with a sucker punch.
Leigh Bromby had time and picked out Lee, who made no mistake in heading past Phillips to bring City's 11-match winning run crashing to an end.
