Michael Wayne MilesBecause Bush says he supports the Federal Marriage Amendment, Patrick Guerriero of Log Cabin Republicans says he "may not endorse the president in the 2004 election" [At Issue, March 30]. May not? How much destruction of democracy do Republicans have to do before Guerriero wakes up? Bush and his posse should be tried for treason for the countless crimes they have committed, but Guerriero thinks the hot issue is gay marriage. The threat of a constitutional ban on gay marriage is nothing more than a typical Republican smoke screen to cover up the bigger lies and failures of the last three years.

Regarding Log Cabin, you ask, "Is this the end for gay Republicans?" When former president Bill Clinton signed into law both "don't ask, don't tell" and the Defense of Marriage Act--the only gay-specific federal legislation enacted by Congress and signed into law during President Clinton's eight--years were those two antigay statutes the end for gay Democrats?
