Inside recruiting/Quarterbacks - top 25 seniors - Brief Article

Bobby Burton

Recruiting analyst Bobby Burton ranks the top 25 senior prospects.

Rk. Name Ht./Wt. 40 Yd.

 1. Brodie Croyle 6-3/186 4.71

Croyle tore his left ACL on September 1, but the injury hasn't
deterred the schools pursuing him. His combination of arm strength
and athletic ability has been compared to that of a young
John Elway. Expect the Tide, for whom his father played, to keep
him in-state.

RECRUITING TRAIL RUMBLINGS AND LOCKER ROOM WHISPERS BY BOBBY BURTON

Following a national trend of early commitments that has grown the last five years, 11 of the top 25 quarterbacks have already chosen a school.... Joe Mauer hails from the same high school that produced Steve Walsh and Chris Weinke. Like Weinke, Mauer is likely to give pro baseball a shot before stepping foot on the college gridiron.... Southern California and Nebraska each have two commitments from top-25 prospects--Mike McLaughlin and Mike Stuntz are the running types that Nebraska favors, while Billy Hart and lefty Matt Leinart fit the pro-style needs of USC.... How do you replace the nation's top quarterback prospect? Easily--if the school is Evangel Christian in Louisiana. Evangel sent top prospect Brock Berlin to Florida a year ago. Enter his backup, Brent Rawls. Not since Steve Stenstrom and Rob Johnson were at California's El Toro High has a single high school had such a one-two quarterback punch in consecutive years.
