Football: Jimmy looks on bright side

GLENAVON boss Jimmy Brown was tight lipped about his sending off but hailed his team's first home win of the season.

Kieran O'Connor grabbed the all important goal with only 10 minutes on the clock and before central defender Johnny Montgomery was also red carded.

O'Connor whipped the ball high into Ian Lester's net after connecting beautifully with Shea Campbell's wicked cross from the left touchline.

Montgomerywas first to go after clashing with Ards midfielder Brian Adair and Brown said: "There were studs showing from both players so maybe both should have gone.

"I have nothing to say about why I was ordered off."

Brown however was full of praise for what he described as a brave and disciplined performance which not only produced newly-promoted Glenavon's first win in front of their own supporters but also their first clean sheet of the season.

He said: "We were comfortable throughout even with a man short.

"They threw four up front towards the end but we coped admirably and might even have scored again."

Ards were disappointing. They carried little threat and were lucky when Ryan Davidson and Gary Wray both cleared shots off the line.
