Homes: PROPERTY OF THE WEEK

Justin Ryan (left)

THE AGENT SAYS:

REACHED via an unmade track at Iden Lock, near Rye, East Sussex, this property fronts on to the River Rother and comes with a floating studio/summer house.

The main living area is open plan, with double glazed windows overlooking the verandah, river and elevated deck garden.

Inside, it has part-polished mahogany floors, wood panelled walls and cabin-style bedrooms.

The main room is more than 27ft long by 12ft wide. Theres a study area with fitted desk and cupboards, utility room and a galley kitchen with hob, cooker and a pink marble pastry board. The bedrooms all have fitted beds and there is one bathroom. The floating glass and timber studio is set on the riverbank and the deck garden is supported on hop poles.

UPS An unusual home in a get-away-from-it all location.

DOWNS Those narrow bedrooms could lose their novelty appeal after a few months of permanent use.

This is a great tale from the riverbank

THE BOYS SAY:

RYE is a gorgeous and increasingly popular property destination that has seen solid returns in recent years.

As nearby seaside locations such as Hastings, Eastbourne and Brighton have gathered momentum, so too have riverside idylls such as this cute spot. Tales from the riverbank were seldom this perfect.

OK, so this pounds 285k des res is not a traditional house but neither are windmills, warehouses or ex-factories, all of which have become popular as buyers want something a little out of step with the average. And this house is certainly out of step with the rest...

On seeing the images of this waterside home, we have to admit we were seriously excited. Just imagine waking up to that droolsome vista every day. The gentle trickling of the River Rother as it meanders gently by and the view of all creatures great and small in their natural habitat. It really doesnt get much better than this.

Like so many other Brits, we are obsessed with a waterside world. Any major builder will tell you that homes by the water be they seaside, canalside or lochside are becoming must-haves.

This quaint little house is sure to appeal to many. The main living area is surprisingly large (27ft x 12ft) although we have to say the bedrooms are perhaps a little on the narrow side. Internally, there are part-polished floors and timber panelling on some of the walls. Continuing with the plus side, theres a study area and a well-fitted bathroom.

And dont forget the summer house at the bottom of the garden.

But get this its a FLOATING summer house! We LOVE that. Try getting the Joneses to keep up with that.

As a primary address or second home, this house holds great promise.
