D BennettIT'S ironic for Tony Blair to say he won't be held to ransom over petrol prices. With duty on fuel always being the first port of call when it comes to swelling the Treasury's coffers, successive governments have held the motorist to ransom for years.
It took the Conservatives two decades to become so out of touch with public opinion that they were almost on another planet. New Labour, it seems, has got there much more quickly.
