MANHATTAN --- Talented tailgaters who pride themselves on their pre-game menus are invited to participate in the K-State Beef Cook- Off on Nov. 4 at Cat Town, in the west stadium parking lot in Manhattan. The contest will begin at 10:30 a.m., rain or shine, before the game with Iowa State. Entries will be judged on taste and presentation, said Heather Hopper, K-State student coordinator for the Collegiate CattleWomen, sponsors of the event.
Recipes for the Cook-Off are limited to main dishes prepared with beef. Non-beef flavor enhancers, such as bacon or anchovies, are permitted; recipes prepared with organ meats aren't eligible.
There are two recipe divisions: fresh meat and pre-cooked. Recipes should call for readily available ingredients, she said.
Celebrity judges will award prizes that should appeal to creative cooking enthusiasts, including gift certificates from the Little Apple Brewing Co., aprons from the Kansas Beef Council and gift certificates for groceries.
Individuals and teams of up to three people are eligible to enter. The cost per entry is $15. Entry forms and complete contest rules can be obtained from Hopper (in care of Twig Marston, Kansas State University, 126 Weber Hall, Manhattan, Kan. 66506) or online at: http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/pr_ccwomen.
