HUTCHINSON --- Visitors at the 2000 Kansas State Fair on Sept. 8 will have an opportunity to take home prize-winning foods --- cakes, cookies, breads, and garden-fresh vegetables --- entered by 4-H'ers.
The foods will be sold after judging is completed, said Lindy Lindquist, K-State Research and Extension associate 4-H specialist who manages the 4-H building at the north end of the fairgrounds where the food sale will take place.
Proceeds from the food sale will be used to fund scholarships in the International 4-H Youth Exchange Program (formerly IFYE). The resulting educational opportunities will be made available to 4- H'ers in the state.
The food sale is a testimony to the success of foods and nutrition as a 4-H project area in the state. Nearly 2,000 entries are expected this year. Some samples will be displayed, but the majority of the foods will be sold so they can be enjoyed while still fresh.
The sale is expected to start at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 and continue until 9 p.m. (closing time). The sale will resume at 9 a.m. on Sept. 9 until all food is sold.
For more information on the food sale, International 4-H Youth Exchange or other educational 4-H programs, check with the information booth in the 4-H building at the Kansas State Fair, or contact the local K-State Research and Extension office.
