Track your investment on the web
NEIL SIMPSONBRADFORD & Bingley shares are now trading on the stock market, as the former building society becomes the latest to turn itself into a bank.
But judging from the flood of recent emails to the Ask the Experts pages of www.thisismoney.co.uk, not everyone knows how many shares they are entitled to, or what the company's prospects are likely to be.
The right financial websites can help people track the performance of their investments. Type the company name into the "Get Quotes" box on thisismoney and you get the latest share price, its change on the day and its 52-week high and low. Click again on the company name on the same page and you can look at and print out a graph showing how the share has done compared with the stock market over anything from one week to five years.
Type any company's name in the Search box on the site's news and markets page and you will also get an archive of past news stories to help you keep up to date with recent events.
If you ever want to sell the shares, the site's advice bank gives the lowdown on all the internet brokers who can carry out the deal online.
So don't stay in the dark when all the facts are just a few clicks away.
Finally, if you want to keep track of just how B&B shares are trading through these first few days on the stock market, its price is updated on the site every 15 minutes. Or, of course, look at the new bank's own website: www.bradfordbingley.co.uk, which is expecting an influx of visitors in conversion week and gives full details of how to contact society staff if problems over share handouts arise.
A new section of special interest for shareholders also goes live next week - worth a look.
