Urban heroes
KATE CHURCHIn recent months utility wear, the original uniform of the Shoreditch urbanite, has undergone yet another transformation. Now the once functional, unisex style is updated with an injection of feminine glam.
Accessories are key here, as demonstrated by Zeta Graff, who combines cropped Dior combats with a crisp white bag and shoes for a confection of girlie punk. Kylie adds saucy embellishments, teaming her khakis with sexy heels and slinky vest, and Emily Crompton keeps it contemporary with a rock-chick biker jacket. Although Jordan almost gets it right in ebony satin cargos, she spoils it with dominatrix heels and an asymmetric sock.
At the other extreme, Amanda Holden isn't flamboyant enough in a subtle floral shirt that fails to make an impact. Meanwhile, Leslie Ash's zip-detailed combats look a little dowdy and Kate Beckinsale's cropped camouflage pants are crying out for some more feminine heels.
