Castlemorris House - Brief Article
Joseph MurphyOn a December '99 visit to southwest IRELAND, we stayed and dined at the following guest houses and restaurant, each of which we can highly recommend to our fellow ITN readers.
* In Tralee, the Castlemorris House (Patrick and Mary Berry, Ballymullen, Tralee County; phone 066 80060 or fax 066 28007) is a classic Victorian home built in 1870 for the commanding officer of a local British Regiment.
Furnished with beautiful antiques, it offers spacious en-suite bedrooms, a drawing room with fireplace, complimentary afternoon tea and a full Irish breakfast for 60 Irish punts ($80), double. Dinner is available.
It is a convenient walk from Tralee Town Center, and a private car park is available.
* For lunch or dinner, try Val O'Shea's Bar & Bistro (phone 066 712 1559), a Tralee institution frequented by the locals. It is located in the heart of Tralee at Lower Bridge Street.
With traditional but elegant pub decor on both the lower and upper floors, Val's offers a varied menu of exceptional food at reasonable prices. Lunch cost approximately 4.50 Irish punts, or $6.
* In the Dingle area, you'll receive a warm welcome at Murphy's Farmhouse (Mary Murphy, Boolteens, Castlemaine, County Kerry; phone 066 9767337 or fax 066 9767839).
This working dairy farm offers spacious, well-appointed rooms overlooking beautiful countryside. There are 14 rooms (seven twin/double, two single and five family, with 13 having facilities en suite). Cost is [pounds]17.50 ($24) per person for an en-suite double, including an extensive breakfast prepared by an excellent cook.
An excellent base for touring the Kerry beaches, Dingle and the Ring of Kerry, it is convenient to Kerry Airport and Tralee. A large private car park is available.
