Careful Consideration of the Facts
I will begin with a resounding thank you for all the cards, letters, e-mails and phone calls I received in response to my last editorial.
While the majority was very supportive, expressing condolences and best wishes, there were some that indicated it is time to change.
Some want a magazine that is an 8" x 11" format. The reason for making it digest size was to make it easier for someone, who happens to be disabled, to handle. That reasoning is still valid today. However it is something that is being discussed and considered among the staff.
Another thought was to concentrate on topics that affect the social aspects of those who are disabled. In the Winter '99 issue, we introduced a forum to which readers could submit questions to attorneys regarding discrimination or "rights." We feel this is a step in the right direction.
While we think we cover most topics equally -- it is always an eye opener to get an objective opinion. Quite often this can be very refreshing. So --should anyone out there have a specific idea for an article on the social issues that affect you most often or a subject you would like to see covered -- SEND THEM IN!!!
The last suggestion I will touch on is to "modernize" the look of the magazine. Over the past year, small and very subtle changes have been made. We are on a never-ending mission to modernize ACCENT. You will notice more changes in this issue.
Again -- I thank you all for your input. Feel free to send in ideas at anytime -- not just when I ask for it! We, at ACCENT, are always receptive to suggestions from our most important critics -- YOU -- our readers.
