KIM'S NOT THE ONE
ALLISON MARTINMOTHER of three Kim Gee was voted off Pop Idol last night after battling it out with the youngest contender Roxanne Cooper to stay on the show.
Roxanne sobbed as hosts Ant and Dec told her that she was through after Kim failed to impress viewers with her version of Elton John's song The One. Elton had warned Kim that she might struggle with her choice.
The Oscar-winning star paid a surprise visit to the Pop Idol house last week. He offered the remaining contestants advice and helped them prepare for last night's show which involved all of them singing one of his hits.
"It's a very difficult song that you have chosen," he told Kim.
Judges Pete Waterman and Simon Cowell said they didn't even know the Elton John song. "I don't really know it and it wasn't a knock- out performance," said Cowell.
But Neil Fox said: "It is an enormous hit song. You've proved you're not a one trick pony but you could have chosen something better."
Cowell battled to get size 16 Kim through to the final 50 after Waterman said she didn't fit the pop star mould.
She refused to lose any weight, unlike fellow wannabe Michelle McManus who has fought hard to shed the pounds.
Cowell claimed Roxanne could win the show after hearing the 16- year-old's version of Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word. "If you carry on what you have done tonight you could win this. That was the money," he said.
Following last night's show, blonde stunner Susanne Manning, 21, is still the favourite to take the Pop Idol crown.
SUSANNE'S AT 5/2
LAST night the odds on Susanne Manning were at 5/2 despite Simon Cowell branding her I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues performance as "absolutely terrible". Andy Scott Lee and Roxanne Cooper are second favourites at 3/1, Sam Nixon is 4/1, Chris Hide is 7/1, Mark Rhodes is 16/1. Outsider Michelle McManus is 20/1.
