RIO FERDINAND was "shopped" by an anonymous tipster, it has been claimed.

Officials have received phone calls, emails and letters accusing football stars of taking drugs.

And we understand Ferdinand was anonymously "grassed up" before he missed his drug test on September 23.

The tip may have been malicious and there is no suggestion Ferdinand has ever taken drugs. If he is banned at an FA hearing later this month it will only be because he missed the compulsory test.

The FA and UK sport have put five top players on a hit-list after claims they used cocaine.
