DANNY MURPHY saved the Addicks' blushes when he curled in a free kick from 20 yards to give his side a 2-1 win at Watford.

Francis Jeffers opened the scoring for Charlton with a dubious penalty on 63 minutes following substitute Sietes' tug on England international Luke Young's shirt.

Marlon King equalised when he headed home second-half substitute Paul Devlin's cross just three minutes later.

Charlton boss Alan Curbishley used five of his six summer signings in the match.

But want-away striker Jason Euell, linked with a pounds 2m move to West Brom, was not named in the 20-man squad.
