West Bend board approves moving some school offices

West Bend The school district's administrative offices will be moving next month.
The School Board voted, 4-2, on Monday to lease 4,100 square feet of space in the Wisconsin Electric Power Co. Service Center at 920 Indiana Ave. The three-year lease will cost the district $3,887 a month.
Those offices being relocated to the new space are the superintendent's office, plus the business, personnel, instruction and public information offices. Those offices currently are located at the back of Badger Middle School, 710 S. Main St.
The move is part of a $1.3 million remodeling project at the middle school. Several special education classrooms for Badger students will be in the space now used by the administrative offices.
The remodeling project was part of a $10 million building referendum approved by voters last year.
The lease is contingent on a clause that would require the electric company to give the school district the right of first refusal if the company ever decides to sell the building. That clause is expected to be included in the lease.
The move is scheduled to take place the week of April 17.
Because the conference room in the new building is not wired for cable television transmission, the move will likely mean that the School Board will hold its meetings at some other location. Meetings are broadcast live by West Bend Community Cable TV.
