Taube cited, given $269 fine after scuffle with young woman

NANCY JOHNSON

Muskego Longtime Ald. David Taube was cited for disorderly conduct and paid a $269 fine in connection with a scuffle with a young woman over the weekend.

Taube, who is seeking re- election to his 4th District seat in the April 4 general election, was cited by police Tuesday afternoon after a two-day investigation.

He declined comment on the advice of his attorney, who could not be reached Tuesday.

Police gave this account of the incident:

Taube had agreed to house-sit for friends on Kristin Drive when he reportedly made a call to the home late Friday or early Saturday and discovered that a group of young people had congregated there.

He went to the house and saw that the son of the owners, an adult male, was having a party. Taube attempted to break up the party by knocking on the door and ordering the party-goers to leave.

Concerned about drinking at the party, Taube parked his car across the driveway to block the exit.

As the party-goers dispersed, Taube tried to record the license numbers of the cars. A 19-year- old woman, Randi Czaplewski, told Taube she didn't want her license number recorded.

When she tried to block the view of her license plate, Taube allegedly pushed her aside. She returned and Taube allegedly pushed her a second time, causing her to fall down, tear her slacks and scrape her knee.

The following morning, the young woman's mother called police, seeking charges of assault and battery.

Interviewed Tuesday, Czaplewski, a student at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, said she might continue to seek criminal charges through the Waukesha County district attorney's office. She said the citation was a "small reprimand."

Police Chief John Johnson said Tuesday that Taube should have called police as soon as he learned about the party, especially since the alderman suspected there was drinking there.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine if there was underage drinking that night, Police Lt. John Daley said.
