Kenosha

Dairyland Greyhound Park, which had been Wisconsin's only profitable dog racing track, reports that declining business contributed to a $600,000 loss in 1994 its first loss in four years of operation.

Terry Gaouette, chief financial officer for the Kenosha track, issued a statement indicating the track's future could be in doubt because of declining business blamed on competition from tribal casinos and Illinois riverboat gambling.

On Tuesday, Gov. Tommy G. Thompson included in his 1995- '97 budget proposal a relief package of the type long sought by dog tracks. The package includes lowering the pari-mutuel tax on the total amount wagered, allowing tracks to keep a greater percentage of the wagers and permitting an unlimited amount of betting on races simulcast by television from other tracks around the nation.
