WHY JUST 18 MONTHS FOR OUR GIRL'S KILLER?

THE parents of a little girl killed in a road crash today called for tougher sentences to be given to dangerous drivers.

Sibel Royer, four, died instantly when Anjum Khan's new Honda Civic ploughed into her mother's car at nearly 50mph in a 30mph zone in Ilford, Essex.

Khan, from nearby Newbury Park, admitted causing death by dangerous driving and was jailed for 18 months at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Sibel's parents, Ben and Funda, said drivers who kill should be charged with manslaughter and the sentencing powers of judges should be increased.

"We are the ones with the life sentence," said Mrs Royer. "There's no light at the end of the tunnel for us but this driver will be able to get on with his life in 18 YOU

months. The only way drivers will stop playing God with other people's lives is with harsher penalties.

"The Government should stop trying to pacify the doom and gloom people who say speed cameras are only there to make money: if there was a camera in that road our daughter would

still be here." The crash happened near the family's home in July last year when IT specialist Khan, 29, smashed into Mrs Royer's Renault Scenic in the car he had just bought.

Sibel was thrown through a window and crushed under her mother's car when it rolled over.

Mrs Royer, 25, said she would never get over losing "beautiful" Sibel.

"There is nothing worse in the world than losing your child," she said.

The couple have a six-year-old daughter, Melis.

Mr Royer, a cab driver, added: "No one expects they will have to bury their child. You lose your future and the opportunity to see them grow up and have children.

When Sibel died, so did a huge part of us."

He said he could never forgive Khan, who wrote an apology for his "moment of insanity".
