Rangers end Adamczuk contract
Allan CampbellRANGERS have terminated the contract of Polish midfielder Dariusz Adamczuk. The 33-year-old has agreed terms with the club which will cut short the four-year deal he signed in June, 1999.
Adamczuk played his last game for Rangers in a 2-1 victory over Aberdeen in November, 2000. In the last two years the Polish internationalist has played just four first-team games, all during a loan spell last autumn at English Nationwide Division Two club Wigan.
The player, who is being treated for depression and has been signed off work by his doctor, has not been seen at Ibrox this season.
Although his wage has been widely quoted at (pounds) 10,000 a week, Rangers finance director Douglas Odam told shareholders at the club's recent annual general meeting that the figure was not as high.
Adamczuk, who was also wanted by Celtic when he played for Dundee, was signed by Dick Advocaat on a Bosman transfer. Prior to Dundee he had also played for Legia Warsaw and Udinese.
When Adamczuk's depression was first made public, his agent, John Viola, said: "This sort of illness can happen to anyone in any walk of life. It is very unfortunate that it has happened to Dariusz while he is earning good money at Rangers.
"We are working hard with Dariusz to get him the proper medical advice and care and we hope this will be sorted out very quickly so he can get on with his career."
