NEWS FROM THE REGIONS: AIRPORTS AND SEAPORTS
Belgium's major airport is ZAVENTEM (Brussels International Airport). It handles more than seven million passengers and 274,000 metric tons of cargo each year.
Belgium has also 4 regional airports.
The BRUSSELS-SOUTH Charleroi Airport is a newly created operating company which will take care of the developing passenger and cargo traffic. This initiative is not without importance since all major European airports are dealing with congestion of the airspace.
Did you know that the port of ANTWERP
* is the primary European unloading port for American
exports of solid fuel (over 4 million tons), transportation
equipment and machinery, beverages and tobacco;
* is in second place for raw materials, such as forest
products and fertilizers (almost 1.5 million tons) as
well as for chemical products (almost 1 million ton).
Regarding American imports, Antwerp is the primary European loading port for iron, steel and metals (nearly 3 million tons) and the second for fuel, chemical products and raw materials, especially textile fibers.
