Internationalization of the Belgian economy

INTERNATIONALIZATION OF THE BELGIAN ECONOMY

A recent study by the CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF LEUVEN determined that during the last 5 years, 222 Belgian companies were acquired by foreign groups. Mainly French and Dutch companies were very active in the acquisition wave. However, the US remains the most important foreign investor in Belgium. One third of the top 3100 Belgian companies, which provide 88 % of the value added, are foreign-owned. These facts demonstrate the openness of the Belgian economy which is already well prepared for the new European market.
