Hospital vigil for UN officer
MICHAEL DOYLEAN Irish Army officer injured while on United Nations duty in south Lebanon remains in hospital in northern Israel.
Commandant Harry O'Connor had further tests carried out yesterday to head wounds he sustained in a confrontation blamed on Hizbollah fighers.
A Defence Forces spokesman said: "The injuries to his head were at first considered to be the most serious but it has now emerged that thankfully they're not as serious as initially feared."
The Kerry-born officer was one of four unarmed UN observers who were attacked by a group of unarmed men at Shebaa Farms, in a disputed area between Lebanon and Israel.
A Norwegian and a French officer suffered fractures in the incident.
