Number's up over phone complaints
CLAIRE COLLINSMOBILE phone companies which provide a shoddy service will be named and shamed.
More than 24 million Britons own a mobile phone compared to just one million 10 years ago - but they have also become the 10th biggest source of consumer complaints.
Industry watchdog OFTEL received 3,817 complaints from customers last month compared to 1,490 in January 1999. The biggest problems were difficulty in getting through to report faults and delays in sorting them out.
Now trading standards officers are planning to make public the names of the worst offenders.
An industry insider said: "It's time to get tough. From now on mobile phone companies will ignore customers at their peril."
