GAA: LONGFORD AT LAST IN DRAMATIC FINISH
JOHN GRAHAMIT took 20 minutes of extra time to separate these sides in Clones yesterday as a game that had been ordinary for long periods built to a dramatic finish.
Monaghan led at half-time by 1-5 to 0-6, Damien Freeman with the goal after just four minutes.
A goal from a penalty by Paul Barden four minutes into the second half saw Longford in front for the first time.
Monaghan responded with a period of power-play that brought six points without reply to go four in front.
Yet in injury time, Longford struck back for a Liam Keenan goal and a point to force extra time.
Longford took control, goals in either half wrapping it up.
