CATS have replaced dogs as man's best friend, according to a new survey.

Ninety per cent of men questioned by the Cats Protection charity admitted to being cat owners, with 30 per cent having two or more feline companions.

Half of them said that their cat was the "first family member" they turned to in the mornings.

Celebrities like Robbie Williams, Chris Evans and Hugh Grant had already helped set the cat-loving trend.

Williams was reportedly reduced to tears two years ago when his beloved kitten, temporarily went missing from his flat.

And Jeremy Spake, former star of the BBC's Airport docu-soap, says he treats his five cats as if they were his children.
