Owen joy but fans are angry

MICHAEL OWEN scored for the first time since October as Liverpool made heavy weather of beating Manchester City.

The 2-1 home win lifted them into fourth place by virtue of having scored one more goal than Newcastle.

But manager Gerard Houllier had to contend with dissatisfaction from the Anfield crowd at his defensive tactics as Liverpool held on for the points.

He said: "I am very proud of my men. We created chances and played football, so what are they moaning about?

"I am disappointed.

When you play a good team it cannot all be one-sided."

Steven Gerrard scored the winner after Shaun Wright-Phillips had cancelled out Owen's opener.

City have now gone 14 league games without a win and boss Kevin Keegan said: "In the next few weeks we play Manchester United, Chelsea and Bolton.

"If we can repeat that second-half display, we will get up the table but if we play like we did in the first half, it will see us in a relegation dogfight."
