European Manufacturers Sign Agreement On Military Airbus Engine - Brief Article
A group of European engine manufacturers including Rolls-Royce, Snecma and FiatAvio (Fiat group) has signed a draft agreement on the design, development and production of the engine that will power the proposed A400M military airbus. The agreement was signed on 23 August in Paris by the members of the Turboprop International consortium: France's Snecma, Germany's MTU, a subsidiary of DASA, Italy's FiatAvio, ITP of Spain, the UK manufacturer Rolls-Royce and Snecma's Belgian subsidiary Techspace Aero. The countries involved in this programme for a four-engined military transport have already announced their intention to order a total of 225 aircraft, with Germany to purchase 73, France 50, Spain 27, Great Britain 25, Turkey 26, Italy 16 and Belgium 8). Fiat has described the project as a significant European partnership in designing and producing the largest turbo-prop engine ever built in the West.
