The weird and wacky secrets of how National Lottery jackpot winners look for a safe place to hide their lucky tickets have just been revealed. And they come up with all sorts of ideas...

The top hiding places have been listed by Camelot as they hunt the owner of the biggest unclaimed jackpot of pounds 2,099,218.

The ticket was bought in the Croydon area for the draw on Wednesday, February 3. The winning numbers were 3, 16, 18, 24, 39, 47.

The most popular place for winners to keep their winning ticket before handing it over is under their pillow.

Other favourite hiding places include socks, shoes, freezers and biscuit tins.

And women like playing things close to their chest. A Camelot spokeswoman said: "One in four female winners hide their tickets in their bra.

"One elderly man put his ticket in his underpants on Saturday night and did not remove it until Monday morning. Another man sellotaped his ticket to his chest."

Judith Knox, of Morpeth, near Newcastle, followed the trend by hiding her ticket in her bra after she won pounds 102,262.

But three sisters from Rotherham took security a stage further when they won pounds 42,300.

They locked their ticket in a briefcase and hid it under the bed - guarded by Benson their Irish wolfhound.

And nursery nurse Alison Forshaw, of Manchester, ripped a corner of her bedroom carpet to hide the ticket after her syndicate won pounds 98,838.

Lottery prizes not claimed within 180 days are donated to charity.

So far, pounds 227.9million of unclaimed cash has gone to good causes. And there is still pounds 38million waiting to be collected by winners.
