C-Meter: September 2001
Reflecting the recent woeful news about the near-term chances for an economic recovery, the September Confidence Meter slumped again to levels not seen since May. CIOs' confidence in the chances that the overall economy would recover in the next 90 days fell back to 4.7 from 5.1, while their confidence in coming conditions for their own companies fell slightly, to 6.5 from 6.6. The hospitality and travel sector remains by far the most optimistic of the various industry groups, scoring 6.5 on the economy as a whole. But a new low was set by government CIOs, who scored lower than 4.0 on their hopes for the overall economy.
