Passengers shun Tube after 7/7
VICTORIA BELLLONDONERS have shunned public transport following the 7 July bombings and feel safer travelling by car, a report shows today.
The London Bombings Evaluation also reveals that West End shops have been hit by a 20 per cent drop in sales since the attacks in which four suicide bombers killed 52 and wounded hundreds of others. Westminster council questioned 100 of its residents and 401 other Londoners.
One in eight said they did not feel safe on buses or trains and 27 per cent felt unsafe on the Tube.
Only three per cent of those travelling by car felt unsafe.
When questioned over whether they would travel more or less often now, 29 per cent said they would take the Tube less regularly and 15 per cent said they would travel by bus less.
The report also showed there are significant levels of anxiety following the attacks.
Thirty per cent of those questioned in September said they had repeated disturbing memories, thoughts or dreams about what happened.
