NOW THE DIANA FOUNTAIN STARTS CRACKING UP
VICTORIA BELLCRACKS have appeared in the troubled Diana Memorial Fountain, less than two years after it was opened by the Queen.
A new report has shown that hairline faults have developed in the structure of the Hyde Park water
feature, which last week was revealed to have cost Pounds 2 million more than planned.
The faults were disclosed in the minutes from a committee of experts who were bought together in a
bid to save the fountain after it was closed earlier this year for safety reason.
The minutes state that the cracks in the structure were as a result of 'natural shrinkage'.
A Department of Culture spokesman said: "We have noted reports of very small cracks in a very small number of stones in the Diana Memorial.
"Our information is that the cracks are so small that more water is lost through evaporation than through the cracks."
