Baggage claim - Style Notebook - Brief Article
Pamela EdwardsDesigner Aina Cherry has always been a huge fan of great handbags. While studying architecture as an undergrad, she created her own backpack because she couldn't find what she wanted: a clean, sleek bag with minimal straps and detachable compartments. She never dreamed that ten years later she'd officially be in the bag business. Today she produces two lines of leather carryalls: Aina Cherry, a collection of modular travel pieces, and A. Cherry, younger, funkier handbags, belts and wallets. She describes her pieces, which are made in Italy, as traditional but unique in silhouette, color and detailing. One of her favorites is a caramel hexagon-shaped weekender set with red piping and baby-blue silk lining that can be carried by its handle or worn like a backpack. The Aina Cherry line ($325 to $1,800) and the A. Cherry collection ($175 to $600) are sold at upscale retailers like Fred Segal in Los Angeles. To locate a store near you, visit acherryhandbags.com.
