pounds 81,000 for father and son beaten by police
JON HARRISA FATHER and son who accused railway police of beating them up for complaining their train was late won pounds 81,000 damages today.
Property developer John Moore, 56, and Peter, 22, sued British Transport Police following the alleged attack at Euston which left Mr Moore senior needing a brain scan. It occurred after the men, from Altrincham, had watched a rugby international at Twickenham in February 1998.
Mr Moore senior approached a railway clerk to ask about his delayed train and claims that up to four police officers beat him with truncheons. Mr Moore, who was treated at University College Hospital, says he and his son were then accused of assault. Both were acquitted at Horseferry Road magistrates court.
Today, ahead of a county court hearing, the Moores accepted an apology and damages but still want disciplinary charges brought against the officers. A BTP spokesman said: "The police recognise that John and Peter Moore were innocent of any criminal offence.
"The police apologise unreservedly for the fact that injuries were caused to them."
