This record's a killer
Tim MartinI read in the July 2004 issue of BoatU.S. Magazine of the "record" 37-lb. mako shark. How ridiculous these types of "line class" records are. I don't care if you were fishing with kite string, there is no valid reason to kill a 37-lb. mako shark. I am a bluewater fisherman, but I would be embarrassed to bring in one and claim a "new world record." The IGFA needs to do away with the line class records because it seems that every new record is a small fish.
I commend Ms. Potter on her efforts. But if makos weren't such a slow growing and slow breeding magnificent shark (when they grow up), maybe this wouldn't be so bad. But, it is slow growing and slow breeding and there is no excuse to kill a 37-lb. specimen, record or not.
