6; MORE SECRETS OF HEALTH AND HAPPINESS
Sharron CollinsTODAY we reveal the final six secrets from from psychologist Louise Samways' fascinating new book which can change YOUR life...
7: GO WITH THE FLOW
HAPPY people are easy-going. You deserve to be happy, so stop feeling guilty about it. Don't use words like "can't", "impossible"'or "never", or you'll build up barriers. Instead tell yourself things are "stimulating", "challenging", or "rewarding". A positive approach will transform your feeling for the job in hand.
Give yourself something to look forward to, such as a special night out or some new experience or challenge. But set realistic goals, and don't be anxious about the outcome.
Remember life is about travelling an intriguing web of lanes, not roaring down a motorway.
8: LIKE PEOPLE
HAPPY people are sociable. Their outgoing nature makes them attractive to others. So the happier and friendlier you are, the more others will seek your company.
There is nothing wrong with being quiet or self-contained, but don't exclude other people. If you're shy it can stop you doing the things you really want to do.
To beat shyness you must make yourself feel you are interesting and have something to offer. And the quickest way to feel differently is to act differently.
9: FEEL USEFUL
HAPPY people feel useful. They have something to contribute to the world.
To feel that way you must find rewarding and varied interests both in and away from your job.
Don't become a work bore. Your health will suffer if your job takes over your life. Find time to explore other interests and make friends outside work through hobbies, community projects or further education. Make yourself feel that you are useful and that your contribution would be missed.
10: FIND PURPOSE
HAPPY people have a reason for living. Find the missing ingredient if your days lack purpose.
You need to feel part of something bigger. It might be as simple as a joining a football team or a hobby group, or something deeper like religion. All of these things will bring a sense of belonging, and ultimately happiness.
Focus on enjoying each moment rather than on the final outcome. Spontaneity and novelty are just as important as the goal.
11: BE SATISFIED
HAPPY people are satisfied. That's a simple concept, and it's not difficult to achieve.
When your perceptions match your beliefs, you will find satisfaction and peace of mind.
Become flexible in your approach to life and have realistic aims. Be prepared to accept alternative views, and keep things in proportion.
If you are at odds with a situation, confront the problem and decide what you can do about it.
You will find peace of mind in living life, not running away from it.
12: BE CONTENTED
HAPPINESS is enjoying what you have. Always wanting something different will bring disappointment.
Learn to distinguish between needs and desires, and stop hankering after what other people have or you'll miss the great things in your own life.
No-one's life is a bed of roses, but that shouldn't spoil the good things.
Focus on the moment ,and tell yourself you deserve to feel contented RIGHT NOW.
