Kids do better when Dad's involved
When fathers participate in three or more school events, their kids enjoy school more and have a lower dropout and expulsion rate.
They also get better grades and participate in more extracurricular activities, says a University of Delaware researcher. Professor Robin Palkovitz says a study by the National Center for Education Statistics has found that Dad's involvement in school, whether it's attending a conference or chaperoning a field trip, has a positive influence on their child's performance, even if they don't live with the child. He suggests schools can reach out with invitations to serve on committees, host a "Bring your father to work day," or ask dads to come and share about jobs, hobbies and talents.
