Optical Libraries Ready for IBM OS/400
Plasmon has announced new versions of its G-Series 5.25 inch optical libraries for the IBM eServer iSeries. The Plasmon GSeries for IBM OS/400 libraries are supported natively by the IBM OS/400 operating system. As the first OS/400-supported optical libraries with 9.1GB Magneto Optical drives, they provide IBM iSeries customers up to 75 percent more optical media capacity. The new libraries will support UDO, (Ultra Density Optical), the new standard in professional optical storage based on blue laser technology, with planned future releases of OS/400.
"IBM is pleased to help bring Plasmon-technology to the iSeries server," said John Reed, director of iSeries Product Management, IBM. "The iSeries platform offers one of the most complete set of solutions in the market and this adds another excellent choice for our customers. We look forward to working with Plasmon to bring UDO technology to the iSeries servers in the future."
"Plasmon worked closely with IBM to produce this new product line. It gives iSeries customers new choices and increased flexibility to implement long-term professional archival solutions," said Christopher Harris, president of Plasmon. "The new G-Series libraries offer significantly improved storage capacities, access time and uptime, as well as a road map to UDO technology."
A full range of G-Series for IBM OS/400 libraries will be available.
