NASA Launch Control Turns to Razor
Tower Concepts Inc. (New Hartford, Conn.) announced that NASA's Kennedy Space Center has selected Tower's Razor configuration management product for its Checkout and Launch Control System. The final system will monitor the Shuttle and its ground equipment, including environmental controls and equipment that loads the Shuttle propellants. Consoles will communicate information to and from ground support system hardware.
Cisco and Microsoft: Diggin' in the Dirt
Cisco Systems Inc. (San Jose, Calif.) and Microsoft Corp. demonstrated the interoperability of their layer 2 tunneling protocol (L2TP) implementations at a California ISDN Users Group meeting. L2TP enables users to create secure virtual private networks over public networks, and has been submitted to the Internet Engineering Task Force for standardization.
IBM Taps Hummingbird For IntelliStation
Hummingbird Communications Ltd. (North York, Ontario) announced that IBM will include Hummingbird evaluation software with its IntelliStation workstations as part of an expanded worldwide marketing and distribution agreement. The Hummingbird sampler includes Exceed for Windows NT, Exceed 3D and NFS Maestro for Windows NT and will be packaged with the IntelliStation Z Pro and M Pro workstations.
Ericsson Awarded BackOffice Solution of the Year
Ericsson Enterprise Networks (Research Triangle Park, N.C.) has been awarded Microsoft's Best BackOffice Solution of the Year award for Dynamic Network Administration applications. The award was presented to Ericsson by Bill Gates in a ceremony at the Fusion 97 Business Symposium for Microsoft solution providers held in Orlando in May.
Fore Comes in Under Par With NCR
Fore Systems Inc. (Warrendale, Pa.) and NCR Corp. (Dayton, Ohio) announced global agreements that will combine Fore's ATM networking products with NCR's network services to create ATM networked solutions, offer joint sales and marketing activities, and position NCR as a worldwide systems integrator and services provider for Fore products and customers.
