Conference On Indigenous Languages - Brief Article
SAN DIEGO, CA--The Southern California Conference on Indigenous Languages and Cultures was held on June 2 and 3, 2001. The event brought together representatives of several Southern Californian tribes as well as their relatives in Baja to share and demonstrate various traditional art forms and language revitalization projects.
Basketweaving and pottery making demonstrations were ongoing both days, with representatives from the California and Baja Kumeyaay and PaiPai as well as Cahuilla tribes displaying their artwork and techniques
Ethnobotany demonstrations including shawii (acorn mush) making were also included Mission Trails tour guides led tours through the park to identify native plants and their uses by indigenous peoples.
Storytelling and language learning techniques, including video and multimedia presentations on gave opportunity for people to gather resources for themselves and others.
