The Washington Post - Brief Article
Stephanie WilliamsAfrican Americans, who may soon relinquish their largest minority status to Latinos, should not lose sight of the primary objective of self-sufficiency, National Urban League President Hugh Price tells columnist William Raspberry of The Washington Post. "There's no question that a realigning of the groups on the American totem pole could affect the way politicians and marketers allocate their time and attention," Price tells Raspberry in a March 12 column. "The clearest message is that we as African Americans have to focus on the fundamentals," he writes. "Most importantly, it says we have to earn our right to be at the table based on what we have to offer, rather than pleading to be there based on what we've been denied in the past."
